Dennis Tietje works to subdue a big bass caught at the California Delta during his first BASSMASTER Elite Series tournament

This big bass helped Dennis Tietje secure the fifth spot going into the second day of action on Friday

Roanoke, Louisiana pro Dennis Tietje is one of three Louisiana anglers with a shot at making the cut to fish Sunday

Dennis Tietje, a Louisiana BASSMASTER Elite pro from Roanoke, finished the first day of his first Elite Series tournament in 5th with 5 bass weighing 15-4.

Tietje is one of the hottest sticks to come out of Louisiana, and his bass fishing prowess has been proven by making the Louisiana BASS Federation State Team a record 10 or 11 times.

Gonzales BASSMASTER Elite Series Pro Greg Hackney is currently in 12th place with 5 fish weighing 14-14. Another Louisiana pro, Jeff Connella from Bently, is in 24th place with 5 fish weighing 13-1.

That puts three Louisiana anglers in striking distance of the title.

I don’t know Tietje’s day-one story yet. I texted him but haven’t received a response yet. I’m sure he’s got lots to do and think about tonight as he prepares to remain in the Top 12 and make the cut to fish the last day.

Dennis Tietje is widely known around South-Central Louisiana for his mastery of the Mermentau River

I just got a reply from Dennis as I added the above image, but I’m not pushing him for information right now because he’s got two more days to fish.

Dennis Tietje has been on the NITRO National Pro Team for several years, and they are one of his major sponsors on the Elite Series

I’ve been blessed to work with Dennis on several stories in the past. He’s always spot-on with his information, and he loves trying to help other anglers learn how to catch more bass. You can bet we’ll be working on some new stuff in the months ahead.

Good luck Dennis and Greg. Louisiana is pulling for you both.
